OpenAI expands ‘ChatGPT Go’ availability to 16 Asian countries

Philippines – After debuting in India and Indonesia, OpenAI has expanded its cost-friendly subscription plan, ‘ChatGPT Go’, to 16 countries across Asia, aiming to make access to its GPT-5 model more affordable and widely available.

The rollout brings ChatGPT Go to users in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, the Maldives, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Laos, Pakistan, Timor-Leste (East Timor), and Brunei Darussalam.

OpenAI clarified, however, that in Cambodia, Laos, and Nepal, ChatGPT Go subscriptions are not yet available through the iOS app. Users in these markets can still access subscriptions via the web and Android platforms.

ChatGPT Go subscribers gain access to ChatGPT’s key features, including higher message limits, image generation, file uploads, and memory—powered by GPT-5, OpenAI’s most advanced model to date.

Compared with the free plan, ChatGPT Go offers significantly higher message limits with GPT-5, increased daily image generations, more file or image uploads, and extended memory for more personalised interactions.

These upgrades are designed to make ChatGPT more useful for everyday applications such as translation, tutoring, writing assistance, self-care advice, and step-by-step guidance.

The launch comes amid strong adoption of OpenAI’s tools across Southeast Asia, where weekly active users have grown by 2.5x to 4x in several markets. The Philippines and Vietnam rank among the top five APAC countries for weekly active ChatGPT users, with the majority of engagement driven by users aged 18 to 34.

The rollout of ChatGPT Go builds on this regional momentum. In India, the number of paid subscribers has more than doubled within a month of launch, accompanied by positive user feedback. The plan was also recently introduced in Indonesia.

ChatGPT Go joins OpenAI’s existing subscription tiers: ‘Plus’, which offers faster responses and priority access, and ‘Pro’, designed for professional users seeking near-unlimited scale and customisation.
