Singapore — A new national survey by StarHub and YouGov has found that 4 in 5 people in Singapore feel mentally drained after extended screen time, with 9 in 10 admitting to mindless scrolling.
In response, StarHub has launched the Digital BMI (Balanced Media Index)—a quick, online wellbeing quiz—and announced the 5G Wellness Festival, a free two-day event designed to help Singaporeans unplug, reconnect, and reset their relationship with technology.
StarHub’s survey also revealed that nearly 9 in 10 people turn to their devices when feeling lonely, yet 3 in 4 digital detox attempts fail due to a lack of meaningful alternatives.
By blending technology, wellbeing, and community, StarHub hopes to help users shift from passive screen time to more intentional living.
As Tan Toi Chia, chief people, organisation and communications at StarHub, put it: “Technology should support us—not drain us. We want to help people use tech with intention, so it fits around their lives, not the other way around.”
Available on StarHub’s website, the Digital BMI quiz helps users reflect on how screen habits affect their mind, body, and emotions.
Results are linked to one of StarHub’s five 5G Wellness Pillars—Gather, Glide, Glow, Ground, and Grow—which encourage more mindful tech use and real-world connection.
The same themes will come to life at the 5G Wellness Festival, taking place on September 13 to 14, 2025 at Capitol Outdoor Plaza, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Highlights include live DJ sets, free-flow coffee, mindful journaling with coach Steph T, Silent Disco Yoga with Mandi Cheung, and leather crafting workshops by Hides & Thread.
