Singapore – Mondelēz International has appointed Abhiroop Chuckarbutty as president of its Southeast Asia (SEA) business unit, effective 1 September 2025. He succeeds Hemant Rupani, who is leaving the company after more than nine years to pursue a new opportunity in India.
Chuckarbutty will oversee the company’s strategy to expand its presence and drive growth across Southeast Asia, which Mondelēz describes as one of its key markets. He previously led the company’s Sub-Saharan Africa unit, where he was credited with creating a strategic roadmap and boosting performance across the region.
“Southeast Asia’s diversity and dynamism are unmatched. I am thankful for the trust placed in me, and for Hemant’s legacy,” Chuckarbutty said. “I look forward to partnering with our talented teams to accelerate growth, strengthen our iconic brands’ connection with consumers, and drive sustainable progress as we continue to empower people to snack right.”
Mondelēz highlighted the region’s evolving snacking landscape, citing urbanisation, increasing digital adoption, and consumer demand for both indulgent and mindful products as key trends shaping the market.
Before joining Mondelēz, Chuckarbutty served as president of the Africa, Middle East & Turkey business unit at Lipton Teas & Infusions. He also held senior roles at Unilever in India, North Africa and the Middle East, including vice president for foods and refreshments in the MENA region.
He brings more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and operations in the consumer packaged goods sector.
