Hong Kong – FC Barcelona is marking the Lunar New Year at its home ground with its “Forging the Future”-themed festivities, featuring a series of celebratory activities in a distinctive Barça style for the Year of the Horse.
The club first launched its Lunar New Year campaign in 2012, aiming to strengthen connections with Culers around the world. For the Year of the Horse, President Joan Laporta, first-team players, and the wider club will join partners to share New Year greetings.
The horse, symbolising strength, vitality, and perseverance, reflects the club’s core values of humility, effort, ambition, respect, and teamwork—principles that have shaped FC Barcelona into a leading European multi-sports club. The Year of the Horse is seen as a symbol of power and resilience for the Blaugranas as they prepare for future challenges.
Laporta also extended his warmest wishes to Culers worldwide as the club kicked off its festive activities.
As part of the celebrations, FC Barcelona will host a “Chinese Culture Experience Day” during the men’s home game against Levante on 22 February CET, organised by the Penya Blaugrana Dracs Units, a Catalonia-based group founded by the Chinese community. Activities will include Chinese delicacy tastings, a robot show, traditional dragon and lion dances outside the stadium, a DJ performance during half-time, and interactions with the club mascot, CAT.
Ahead of kick-off, first-team players will wear jerseys featuring their Chinese names and will be escorted to the pitch by children from the Penya Blaugrana Dracs Units. Stadium displays, including Canvas and LED assets, will be customised with festive colours and New Year greetings for fans.
To engage Culers beyond the stadium, the club is rolling out a digital campaign in the first half of the lunar month. A specially filmed video features men’s and women’s first-team players, along with mascot CAT, delivering Lunar New Year blessings. Players including Robert Lewandowski, Pedri, Cubarsí, Wojciech Szczęsny, Gerard Martín, Alexia, Kika, Pajor, Laia, and Serrajordi hold Spring Festival couplets handwritten by children from the Penya Blaugrana Dracs Units.
In addition to the Barça Red Envelope cover on WeChat, over 13 partners from Asia Pacific and around the world will participate in dynamic digital promotions. These initiatives have been recognised for their innovation and effectiveness in connecting the club with fans globally.
