Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — Publicis Chemistry Malaysia is strengthening its growth ambitions with the return of award-winning creative David HK Tan as Creative Lead, a move aimed at accelerating the agency’s creative capabilities and expanding its social-first marketing offering.
Originally launched in Singapore in 2024, Publicis Chemistry was designed as a modern social-first agency model that combines creative thinking, media intelligence and data-driven insights to help brands connect with audiences more effectively across digital platforms.
Tan’s appointment signals the next stage of growth for Publicis Chemistry Malaysia, which has rapidly built momentum by helping brands stay relevant through culture-driven content, community engagement and always-on social marketing.
Effective immediately, Tan will partner closely with Anna Ragen, Business Head of Publicis Chemistry Malaysia, who has played a key role in scaling the agency and deepening its expertise in social platforms and communities, to further strengthen the agency’s creative ambition to become a leading social-first marketing agency in the market.
Tan’s return is expected to further strengthen the agency’s creative output as it enters its next phase of growth. He rejoins the Publicis network after a 12-year stint at Leo Malaysia, where he rose to Associate Creative Director and contributed to award-winning campaigns recognised at Cannes Lions, Spikes Asia, MAD Stars, ADFEST and Kancils.
Firzan Mulafer, Managing Director at Publicis Communications Malaysia, explains, “This team has been deliberately handpicked and curated to reflect where advertising is today, rooted in culture, moving at speed and built to stay ahead of constant change. The momentum Publicis Chemistry is enjoying in Malaysia is a result of putting the right people together at the right time.”
In his new role, Tan will report to Emir Shafri, Chief Creative Officer (CCO) at Publicis Groupe Malaysia, and lead the agency’s creative direction while helping shape work that sits at the intersection of culture, creativity and commercial effectiveness.
Commenting on his appointment, Tan shared, “Returning to Publicis and back to Malaysia feels like a drop of forest green paint falling onto a brown canvas. Anna and her team understand how brands show up in culture, not just campaigns.”
“Coming back to be part of that works hand-in-hand with what I am passionate about: ideas rooted in a ‘Humankind’ philosophy. I’m excited to help shape what Publicis Chemistry Malaysia becomes next,” added Tan.
Public Chemistry has grown significantly over the past two years, expanding into a 50-person team specialising in content strategy, creative development, community management and social-led brand experiences.
As brands increasingly look for marketing partners that can respond to fast-moving conversations and shifting consumer behaviours, Publicis Chemistry is positioning itself as a social-first agency built to deliver culturally relevant work that drives both engagement and business impact.
