Indonesia – Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism has unveiled ‘MaiA’ (Meticulous Artificial Intelligence of Indonesia), an AI-powered platform designed to enhance national tourism services as part of its priority Tourism 5.0 programme.
MaiA is designed to improve the quality of tourism services using adaptive, smart technology focused on travellers. The platform, accessible through indonesia.travel, marks a new stage in Indonesia’s digital tourism development.
The Minister of Tourism described MaiA as more than a technological tool, calling it a representation of a renewed approach to tourism services in the country. The system acts as a digital travel companion, helping users find travel inspiration, create itineraries, and navigate destinations with greater confidence.
As a part of Indonesia’s digital tourism transformation, MaiA aims to strengthen the connection between travellers and the country’s culture, experiences, and stories. Its features include personalised destination recommendations, automated itinerary creation, an interactive map, and multilingual destination summaries.
At the launch, Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana highlighted that MaiA responds to changes in global travel behaviour, with tourists increasingly seeking personalised, efficient, and accessible experiences. The platform is expected to support Indonesia’s competitiveness internationally while advancing sustainable and user-friendly tourism.
“Let us welcome MaiA as a step forward toward a more adaptive, competitive, and world-class future for Indonesian tourism,” said Minister Widiyanti.
The Ministry of Tourism also anticipates that MaiA will add value for travellers and reinforce Indonesia’s reputation as an innovative and relevant destination in the global tourism market.
“The launch of MaiA is the actual implementation of the government’s commitment to establishing a smart, inclusive, and sustainable tourism ecosystem,” Minister Widiyanti said at the launch event. “This is our step toward shaping tourism that is not only beautiful to behold but also intelligent and inclusive for all.”
