Surabaya, Indonesia – Green SM, Indonesia’s first premium all-electric taxi service, has arrived in Surabaya, giving residents and visitors a cleaner, quieter, and smarter way to travel.
To mark its debut, the company is offering discounts of up to IDR 50,000 per ride, encouraging the public to experience eco-friendly travel that contributes to cleaner air in the city.
The launch event was attended by senior government officials, business leaders, and representatives from municipal agencies, highlighting broad support for sustainable transport in Surabaya—one of Java’s most vital economic hubs.
With more than 3.8 million vehicles registered in 2024, the city faces mounting congestion and pollution.
Green SM’s all-electric fleet, operated by trained professional drivers and supported by seamless booking through its app, offers a practical and sustainable alternative aligned with Surabaya’s Smart City ambitions and Indonesia’s carbon-reduction goals.
Green SM first launched in Jakarta in December 2024, quickly earning praise for its quiet rides, courteous drivers, and transparent fares.
In recent weeks, it has expanded to Makassar and Bekasi, with Surabaya marking its most significant milestone yet—a move from a gradual rollout to a nationwide green mobility push.
Deny Tjia, managing director of Green SM Indonesia, said, “Our expansion into Surabaya is more than just adding a new city, it reflects a deeper commitment to the people and rhythm of Indonesia’s most dynamic urban centres.”
‘Within just one month, we have expanded to Makassar, Bekasi, and now Surabaya, demonstrating both the strong demand for premium green mobility and our ability to scale rapidly. Surabaya, as eastern Java’s commercial hub and international gateway, is the ideal place to demonstrate that electric taxis are not only practical but also establish a new benchmark for sustainable urban mobility,” Tija added.
