Singapore – The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) is playing Cupid with ‘Aunties, Not Algorithms’, a matchmaking campaign inviting singles to ditch endless swiping and trust auntie intuition instead—with the reward being an all-expenses-paid, auntie-approved first date in Singapore.
Timed ahead of Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day, the initiative taps into a long-standing Asian tradition of auntie-led matchmaking.
Comedian Atsuko Okatsuka and Singaporean actress Tan Kheng Hua will serve as celebrity “aunties”, joined by astrologer and matchmaker Aliza Kelly.
Together, they will select two participants for a curated first date in Singapore designed to showcase the city’s food, culture, and vibrant spirit.
As the Year of the Horse approaches, symbolising movement and new beginnings, singles are invited to submit their profiles via FirstDateInSingapore.com.
The chosen pair will receive round-trip flights to Singapore, a stay at a centrally located hotel, an auntie-approved itinerary with spending money, and an exclusive cooking class featuring authentically Singaporean cuisine with Michelin-starred Chef Malcolm.
“I’ve heard the dating horror stories. From doomscrolling to awkward small talk to people ghosting you. I don’t want anyone to suffer that anymore,” said Atsuko Okatsuka.
“Becoming an auntie to help someone skip the apps and land an epic first date in Singapore—a place full of amazing food, culture, and personality—is an honor! I’m here to report for duty,” Atsuko added.
“With iconic skyline views, lush gardens and lively waterfronts at every turn, Singapore sets a picture-perfect backdrop for a first date,” said Eileen Lee, senior vice president, Americas at Singapore Tourism Board.
“Whether it’s a reunion or a fresh start, our city offers experiences that bring people together—through our food, culture and a sense of celebration that’s felt year-round,” Lee added.
The contest is open for entries until 13 March 2026. Participants can follow the campaign using #AuntiesNotAlgorithms and #FirstDateInSingapore.
