Australia – Mastercard has appointed Alexandra Sloane as vice president, integrated marketing and communications, Australasia, effective January 22, 2026. Based in Sydney, Sloane will lead brand strategy and integrated communications across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
In her new role, Sloane will work with Mastercard’s in-house marketing team and agency partners to oversee B2B, partner and consumer marketing, as well as sponsorships and communications. Her remit includes strengthening Mastercard’s presence across key customer segments, advancing integrated and multi-sensory marketing initiatives, and overseeing brand assets such as its sponsorship portfolio and the digital platform priceless.com.
She will also be involved in supporting Mastercard’s long-term growth agenda and its 2030 roadmap, including initiatives related to emerging payment technologies such as numberless cards and agentic commerce.
Sloane joins Mastercard from Optus, where she led brand, network, sponsorship and events. Prior to that, she headed Enterprise and Business Marketing at Optus and spent a decade at Meta in Sydney and Singapore, working on growth initiatives for Facebook, Instagram and Messenger across Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region. She also serves on the board of the NSW Parks and Wildlife Trust and advises Australian technology start-ups.
“Alex brings a rare mix of creativity, commercial acumen and leadership experience. She understands how powerful our brand can be when it’s connected to the right stories, experiences and partnerships. I’m thrilled she’s joining the team and I know she will play a big role in shaping how we show up for our customers and their communities in the years ahead,” said Julie Nestor, executive vice president, marketing and communications, Asia Pacific at Mastercard.
Speaking on her appointment, Sloane said, “The payments ecosystem is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation, which makes it an incredibly exciting time to be working at the intersection of brand, technology and customer experience. Mastercard is one of the most recognised and trusted brands in the world, and I’m looking forward to bringing my own unique experience to the table, working with the team to bring Mastercard’s brand to life in new ways for people and businesses across Australasia.”
Sloane will report to Paul Monnington, division president, Australasia, and Julie Nestor.
Her appointment follows several recent leadership changes within Mastercard’s Australasia and Asia Pacific operations. These include Monnington assuming the division president role as Richard Wormald prepares to become president, Asia Pacific, and Megan Simons being appointed country manager for New Zealand and Pacific Islands, following Ruth Riviere’s planned move to Sweden to lead Mastercard’s Services team in the Nordics.
