Hong Kong – Homegrown supermarket chain Wellcome has transformed its Prosperous Garden branch into a nostalgia concept store, offering shoppers a retro-themed experience that celebrates Hong Kong’s cultural heritage and collective memories.
The Prosperous Garden branch, located opposite the Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station – a Grade II historic building on bustling Canton Road – has been part of the city’s retail landscape since 1945, growing alongside generations of Hong Kong families.
The refreshed nostalgia concept, aimed at both locals and tourists, invites visitors to step back into the charm of the 1950s through the 1970s. The store blends a retro atmosphere with curated local products, photo spots, and souvenirs rarely found elsewhere.

Visitors begin their journey at the shopfront, featuring LED signage inspired by the iconic neon lights of old Hong Kong and walls lined with mirrored tiles. Beyond the classic silver‑and‑green turnstile, shoppers enter a “time tunnel” filled with retro details, including red plastic lamps, a retro TV selfie spot, an old-style telephone display, vintage grocery scenes, and traditional street signs, all evoking memories of Hong Kong’s past.
Shoppers can also take home a piece of history with a limited-edition Wellcome Retro Eco Bag, a keepsake inspired by the classic red-and-yellow Wellcome carrier bag that has been a household staple for decades.
Promotional offers continue throughout February. From 6 to 19 February 2026, customers can redeem a mini red SMEG Lifebox container. For Lunar New Year, Wellcome has collaborated with local brand Goods of Desire (G.O.D.) on a limited-edition “Lucky Set,” priced at HK$68.
Wellcome’s first Hong Kong nostalgia concept store is located at G/F, Unit 1–11, Block 5, Prosperous Garden, 3 Public Square Street, Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon (Yau Ma Tei MTR Exit C).
