Thailand – Retail chain Lotus’s is giving out coupons that only appear after the rain, encouraging visits to the stores during the rainy season. Collaborating with VML, Lotus’s has launched rain-activated coupons, enabling shoppers to take a photo and redeem it for discounts in-store.
The ‘Rain Coupons’ are found on pavements outside Lotus’s Go Fresh stores. They are created using a waterproof spray technology, keeping stencilled areas dry and unveiling the coupons when it rains.
The coupons unlock a variety of deals on rainy season essentials. Offers include a free raincoat coupon, discounted laundry detergent, and a 10% storewide discount. Additionally, seasonal offers will rotate, featuring discounts on ready-to-eat meals, fruits and vitamins, and hot beverages.
The strategic placement of these coupons extends beyond store locations to areas such as bus stops, subway stations, condominium neighbourhoods, and even near competitor convenience stores. This approach seeks to capture the attention of commuters and residents who might be seeking shelter or waiting for rain to subside.
Lotus’s campaign acknowledges Thailand’s weather patterns and encourages consumers to embrace the rainy season rather than avoid it. The initiative reflects the company’s understanding of local consumer behaviour and its aim to create positive shopping experiences regardless of weather conditions.
