Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Thailand-based logistics and courier firm Flash Express has confirmed it will shut down its operations in Malaysia by 31 January 2026, marking an unexpected exit from a market it entered just a few years ago. The move comes amid intense competition and sustained financial losses in the local express delivery sector.
“Our business in Malaysia will be permanently closed effectively from 31 January 2026. Thank you for your continued support over the years,” the company said in a Facebook post.
According to company communications circulating internally, Flash Express Malaysia will stop accepting new shipment orders from 15 January 2026, while ensuring that all parcels booked before that date continue to be delivered.
The company stated it will use the remaining weeks of operation to settle customer accounts, track outstanding shipments, and support stakeholders through the closure process.
Flash Express Malaysia officially began operations on 25 October 2021 as part of Flash Group’s broader Southeast Asia expansion strategy. The Malaysian arm was established to offer a suite of logistics services focusing on free door-to-door pick-ups, competitive cash-on-delivery (COD) rates, and delivery operations year-round.
The original company was founded in Bangkok, Thailand in 2017 by CEO Komsan Saelee, originally as an express courier service focused on fast, tech-enabled delivery with features such as free pickup and year-round operations. Within four years, the company achieved unicorn status, exceeding a US$1b valuation by mid-2021 — the first Thai startup to do so.
Following this, Flash Express expanded into the Philippines, Laos, and then Malaysia. It also has warehousing and cross-border supply chain solutions in several Southeast Asian markets including Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
