Singapore – DoorDash has officially arrived fresh into Singapore with its Deliveroo acquisition now complete, promising customers, merchants, and riders that service will only get faster and smoother.
“This is the beginning of a new chapter, not the end of an old one,” said Tony Xu, co-founder and CEO of DoorDash.
Xu also told Deliveroo’s seven million active customers they can expect a “faster, smarter, and more delightful” experience.
In his open letter to the Deliveroo community, Xu reflected on their shared mission with Deliveroo, “When we started DoorDash in 2013, our mission was simple: grow and empower local economies. We wanted to create a world where every local business—small, medium, and large—could connect with every local consumer.”
“We wanted to enable communities to thrive, with vibrant High Streets and ample opportunities for people to earn. It is a mission that we share with Deliveroo—a focus on serving the local communities where we operate—and is what has driven my admiration for what they’ve built over the past 13 years,” he added.
For its 178,000 merchants, he pledged new tools to help them “thrive both online and offline,” while assuring 130,000 riders that flexibility would be preserved alongside better mapping, protections, and support to make delivering safer.
Wolt co-founder Miki Kuusi, already DoorDash’s Head of International, will step into the role of Deliveroo CEO and relocate to London.
“Having known Will and others from the Deliveroo team for many years, I’ve always admired what they have built: a strong brand, a great product, and world-class operations,” Kuusi said.
“It’s remarkable what this team has built and accomplished. I couldn’t be more excited to learn from each other as we take our shared mission to the next level,” he added.
