Singapore – Communications technology group Singtel has launched its latest National Day film, honouring Singapore’s progress throughout the years. Celebrating SG60, Singtel’s film calls on people to move forward together into the future.
The ‘Majulah Singapura’ film, meaning Onward Singapore, depicts how the National Day Parade is held over six decades, highlighting its changes. It also shows how communications technology played a role in driving progress for the people.
From the 1966 National Day Parade, the film illustrates how the event has evolved with Singtel as its communications technology provider. It includes black and white footage of the parade, even capturing President Yusof Ishak and Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.
Featuring Yuen Kuan Moon, group CEO at Singtel, the film also spotlights how the mobile network technology is powering ports and hospitals. From simply lining up in the streets during the first National Day Parade, attendees can now participate by recording and livestreaming the experience using their mobile phones.
Singtel has been sponsoring the National Day Parade with network services for over three decades. For SG60, Singtel will be providing a free 60-day trial of its 5G+ SIM-Only Priority Plus plan. The plan offers capabilities like network slicing, network access, and greater bandwidth, among others.
Yuen commented, “This film celebrates Singapore’s remarkable progress – how a little red dot with limited land and resources has established itself as a global city-state with an innovation DNA. We are honoured to be part of the Singapore story, working in lockstep with the government and the private sector to develop the communications technology and digitalisation that have been critical in driving Singapore’s economic development, allowing us to establish ourselves as an international business hub and one of Asia’s most successful economies.”
“Looking ahead, we remain committed to building world-class connectivity, digital infrastructure and digital services that will fuel growth and collaboration not just for Singapore, but across the region,” he added.
Lian Pek, vice president of group strategic communications and brand at Singtel, said, “Our National Day parade celebration is one of the most anticipated events in the national calendar and virtually a symbol of how much we’ve changed. Just as Singapore has evolved through the years, so too has the Parade and the way we participate in it, making it a powerful way to tell the story of how our lives have been profoundly transformed by technology. Innovations like 5G+ and AI will provide the ink for our next chapter, and we at Singtel are honoured to be empowering both consumers and enterprises to harness them to thrive in the years to come.”
