Petaling Jaya, Malaysia — PJ Collective has unveiled a new integrated social wellness destination in Petaling Jaya, bringing together sports, fitness, recovery, and community experiences under a single brand ecosystem developed by The Clan.
The launch aims to create a connected wellness experience where visitors can move seamlessly between activity, training, and recovery while becoming part of a wider community.
Located within the former Kong Brothers Engineering Works site, a 50-year-old steel fabrication factory, the destination combines adaptive reuse with a modern approach to wellbeing, preserving elements of the building’s industrial heritage while introducing new spaces designed for active lifestyles.
At the heart of the offering are three interconnected experiences: The Collective Courts for pickleball, Recollective for recovery services, and Collective Training Club, which provides personal training, physiotherapy and mobility programmes.
A shared membership model allows users to access the facilities as part of a single wellness ecosystem.
To support the launch, The Clan developed the brand strategy, naming system, visual identity, and communications framework for the destination, while also delivering website development, signage, wayfinding, merchandise, and sub-brand creation.
Centred around connection and community, the brand’s visual system features a central gathering point in the logo representing people coming together, with ripple effects symbolizing wider shared impact.
According to PJ Collective, the goal was to create more than a collection of fitness facilities.
“PJ Collective was always intended to bring different parts of wellbeing into one shared experience. The building gave us a chance to preserve a piece of Petaling Jaya’s history while creating a place where people can play, train, recover and spend time together. The Clan understood that this had to feel like a community from the beginning, not simply a collection of facilities,” said Janell Tan, Co-Founder of PJ Collective.
The project also reflects the growing demand for wellness destinations that combine fitness with community-building, offering consumers a more holistic approach to health and lifestyle.
“We loved the idea of rejuvenating an old building in an older part of PJ and helping the neighbourhood move forward in a new stride towards fitness. The brand had to hold on to the character of the place while giving people a reason to gather again,” said Sam Lai, Head of Art at the Clan.
“We became so engaged with that purpose that we converted part of our fee into PJ Collective memberships, giving our own people wellness credits to use across the space. It made sense for the agency building the collective to become part of it,” shared Casey Loh, Creative Chief at the Clan.
Through the launch, PJ Collective hopes to establish itself as a new hub for social wellness in Petaling Jaya, bringing together people through sport, movement and meaningful connections.
