Telstra looks beyond festive clichés to tell an unexpected Christmas story in new campaign

Australia – Telstra has launched a new instalment of its ‘Together is for Christmas’ campaign, created in partnership with Bear Meets Eagle On Fire (+61), which aims to tell a more unexpected and emotionally grounded holiday story.

Following last year’s Effie- and Cannes-winning campaign, the latest chapter centres on the theme of connection and “finding your people” during the festive season.

Directed by Steve Rogers from Revolver in his first animated project, and produced with award-winning animation studio Mathematic, the film tells the story of two unlikely characters who find companionship during Christmas.

The campaign extends beyond the film, with in-store activations designed to enhance customer experience through themed retail displays and giveaways.

Alita McMenamin, head of brand and marketing communications at Telstra said, “At its heart, this campaign is about connection: the kind that transcends distance, differences, and even tradition. It’s about finding your people, whoever and wherever they are, and celebrating the joy of being together. And as a 90’s music lover the track works so perfectly with the gorgeous story.”

“We just wanted to create a story with a genuine Christmas soul, without leaning on all the expected tropes,” said Micah Walker, chief creative officer of BMEOF. “Massive thanks to Steve, Revolver and the Mathematic team who’ve put so much into the beautiful film.”

Hanne Haugen, business lead at BMEOF, added: “The story of connection rings especially true at Christmas, and it underpins the season for Telstra. What a privilege to work with such a talented team to bring it to life.”

Earlier this month, Telstra launched a new integrated campaign titled ‘Together Builds Better’, marking the next chapter in its ‘Wherever We Go’ brand platform. For the brand, it noted that it signals a refreshed creative direction for Telstra’s Enterprise division, aiming to demonstrate the possibilities of partnership and the role of connectivity in advancing Australian industries.
