Australia – Telstra has launched a new advertising campaign highlighting its satellite messaging capability, which enables eligible customers to send and receive text messages even when they are outside mobile network coverage.
The campaign, developed by creative agency Bear Meets Eagle On Fire in collaboration with +61, features three stop-motion films directed by Catherine Prowse from Passion Animation.
Set in remote environments such as farmland, desert and mountain locations, the films depict characters sending messages via satellite despite being outside the reach of traditional mobile networks. The production uses rotating sets that transition from terrestrial landscapes to outer space to illustrate how the satellite connection works.
According to the company, Telstra is currently the only telecommunications provider in Australia offering satellite messaging for eligible customers.
The campaign will be supported by an integrated media rollout across television, cinema, digital platforms, social media and retail channels.
Alita McMenamin, Telstra Head of Brand and Marketing Communications, said, “This campaign uses simple, endearing product demonstrations to show the benefit of Telstra’s Satellite messaging.
“The care and craft the team put into making the sets and characters was extraordinary. Satellite Messaging offers customers a simple way to send a message when travelling, working or exploring off-grid – and this work shows that in a way that’s clear and engaging.”
Micah Walker, Chief Creative Officer, BMEOF, commented, “This is such a simple idea with engineering at the heart of the execution. We love that the rigour and care that stop motion requires to make something look effortless is also true of how Satellite messaging works and Catherine has done a lovely job of making that huge effort charming and memorable.”
