Malaysia — South Korea’s fast-food giant Lotteria is entering the Malaysian market, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy.
Parent company Lotte GRS Co. has signed a master franchise agreement with local retail player Serai Group, granting it the rights to operate and sub-franchise the Lotteria brand across Malaysia.
The first Malaysian outlet is slated to open later this year, with an ambitious plan to roll out 30 stores within five years.
Lotteria is known for its menu selection which includes menu items unique to the chain’s South-Korean and Japanese cuisine roots like Ebi Burger and Bulgogi Burger.
Their new market expansion reflects Lotte GRS’s broader push into international markets providing tailored menu items to their new branch locations.
The company is also set to open its first U.S. outlet this month in Orange County, California. Lotteria currently operates approximately 1,000 stores in South Korea and 320 overseas, with a presence in Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, and Mongolia.
The Malaysian debut underscores Lotteria’s strategy of tapping into Southeast Asia’s growing appetite for global fast-food brands, leveraging local partnerships to scale rapidly.
