Jakarta, Indonesia – Digital Sea McCann has recently appointed Roma Das as its new managing director in Indonesia, marking a strategic step in the agency’s evolution toward a future-ready, digitally-led creative powerhouse.
In her new role, Roma will oversee the agency’s operations, talent, and strategic growth initiatives, while driving innovation in digital, content, and commerce solutions for clients across Indonesia.
In an exclusive interview with MARKETECH APAC, Roma shared her immediate priorities, leadership philosophy, and vision for integrating creativity, technology, and performance across Southeast Asia.
Building the future of Digital Sea McCann
Stepping into her new role, Roma sees her responsibilities as more than operational.
“I see my responsibility as building the future of Digital Sea McCann — not just managing operations, but shaping what we become next,” she said.
As the new managing director, Roma will focus on driving innovation across Digital Sea McCann’s product and service offerings, strengthening the agency’s talent ecosystem, and creating a culture that fuels high performance.
In the near term, Roma’s priorities are clear: sharpen the agency’s structure, empower talent, and enhance capabilities in data, content ecosystems, and performance-led thinking. She is also focused on fostering a culture rooted in ownership, urgency, and excellence.
“My priority is to strengthen our talent and structure by ensuring the right people are in the clear roles,” Roma emphasised.
Meanwhile, when asked about her long-term goals, Roma shared that her ambition is to position Digital Sea McCann as a creative and digital powerhouse that delivers measurable business results.
“It’s about building a team and product that consistently performs at a higher standard and sets new benchmarks in the market,” she added.
Unlocking opportunities in a rapidly evolving digital landscape
According to Roma, Indonesia is experiencing a swift shift toward digital-first ecosystems, from content consumption to commerce and performance-driven marketing.
“Agencies need to scale at the same speed as the market moving from traditional campaign thinking to agile, always-on, data-led models. The future belongs to agencies that are digital-first by design, not digital as an add-on,” she said.
Roma emphasises that agencies must evolve beyond creative execution to become strategic growth partners — blending creativity, technology, commerce, and analytics to deliver measurable business impact rather than mere visibility.
Beyond Indonesia, Roma also sees opportunities to leverage the McCann network for integrated Southeast Asian brand-building initiatives.
“By collaborating more closely across offices, we can build scalable brand platforms that travel seamlessly across borders while staying locally relevant,” she said.
Her vision is to combine global strategic thinking with Southeast Asian agility, creating integrated solutions that deliver consistent brand experiences across markets.
Staying ahead and driving innovation
In a rapidly changing digital-first environment, it is critical for agency leaders to stay on top of shifting trends and enduring principles.
For Roma, she stays at the forefront of digital and commerce trends by closely tracking platform innovations, consumer behaviour, global case studies, and emerging tech — particularly AI-driven creativity. She also draws insights from young talent native to these platforms.
“The digital and e-commerce landscape changes rapidly, so staying curious and adaptable is key,” she said.
When asked what excites her most in her new chapter with Digital Sea McCann, Roma highlighted the agency’s move toward stronger e-commerce integration and the creation of agile mini-studios for clients.
“What excites me most about this new chapter at Digital Sea McCann is our move toward stronger e-commerce integration and building agile mini studios for clients — creating faster, performance-driven content that directly connects creativity to conversion and business growth,” Roma concluded.
