Bangkok, Thailand – The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has launched a campaign reminding households to adopt energy-efficient appliances and regularly check electrical systems as part of efforts to promote safer and more sustainable electricity use across the Bangkok metropolitan area.
The authority, which distributes electricity in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan, said greater public awareness of safe electricity use is increasingly important as weather conditions become more unpredictable and place added strain on household electrical systems.
Tadthep Vanavichitra, director of the corporate communication department at MEA, said the organisation recognises the role of efficient and safe electricity consumption in modern daily life.
“As the electricity distribution service provider for Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan, the organisation recognises the importance of efficient and safe electricity use, which is essential for modern living,” Vanavichitra said. “With increasingly unpredictable weather conditions, checking the readiness of electrical systems at home should not be overlooked.”
The authority further advised residents to regularly inspect electrical wiring and outlets for damage such as burn marks, cracks, or signs of leakage. If any issues are identified, repairs should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Additional safety measures include installing a residual current device to help prevent electric shock and electrical leakage, as well as cleaning air conditioners at least every six months to maintain efficiency. MEA also recommends turning off and unplugging electrical appliances when they are not in use.
