Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Hong Kong-based restaurant group Tam Jai International (TJI) has officially entered the Malaysian market with the opening of its first TamJai Mixian outlet at Sunway Pyramid in Selangor. The launch, held on July 29, marks a key milestone in the group’s Southeast Asian expansion, achieved through a strategic partnership with Hextar Retail Berhad, a subsidiary of the Hextar Group of Companies.
The grand opening was attended by TJI chairman, executive director and CEO Daren Lau, Hextar Group CEO Dato’ Eddie Ong, and popular Hong Kong celebrities Grace Chan and Kevin Cheng.
Situated in one of the region’s most popular lifestyle destinations, the new outlet benefits from high foot traffic, drawing on the mall’s more than 3 million monthly visitors. The restaurant spans around 136 square metres and seats up to 57 guests, offering significant brand exposure and positioning the brand for further growth across Malaysia.
The Sunway Pyramid outlet also introduces the new “TamJai Mixian” identity to Southeast Asia, merging two of the Group’s signature brands—TamJai Yunnan Mixian and TamJai SamGor Mixian—into a single, contemporary concept. The interior features a vibrant red and green design, accented by neon “spicy clouds” and a Mixian-themed pendant, while an open kitchen allows diners to watch their meals being prepared.
This opening follows the establishment of the partnership between TJI and Hextar Retail Berhad in August last year. As an operator of diverse F&B concepts, Hextar Retail Berhad brings local market expertise and operational capabilities to support TamJai Mixian’s rollout.
“We are pleased to introduce Hong Kong’s Number 1 noodle brand to Malaysia’s dynamic fast-casual food scene. This partnership with TJI combines their renowned culinary expertise with our local market knowledge and operational excellence, delivering an exciting and innovative dining concept in the country. Together, we are poised to reshape Malaysia’s F&B landscape through our upcoming expansion across the country,” said Dato’ Eddie Ong.
Meanwhile, Daren Lau added, “Our debut in Malaysia represents a significant step forward in TJI’s strategic expansion across the rapidly growing Southeast Asian market. We are confident that our proven brand concept will resonate well with local consumers, enabling us to capitalise on the strong growth potential of Malaysia’s vibrant and diverse culinary scene. With the support of local partnerships, we look forward to further advancing our mission of ‘Bringing Tam Jai Taste to the World’.”
It is worth noting that that Tam Jai International previously announced plans to expand its presence in the Philippines and Australia. For the Philippines, it has announced a potential franchise partnership with a subsidiary of the Philippine conglomerate Suyen Corporation. Meanwhile, for its foray into the Australian market, it has announced a joint venture with ST Group Food Industries Holdings Limited.
