Manila, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) confirmed that its latest investigation into the Jollibee “Burger Blowout Promo” showed fraudulent attempts of alleged exploiting fake names and even artificial intelligence (AI) – generated names, during the raffle’s third week draw.
According to a DTI statement released on August 20, Jollibee immediately applied corrective measures and temporarily suspended the third week raffle draws. All entries and winners during this period were disqualified as approved by the DTI.
In a separate statement on Wednesday, Jollibee concurred with a special raffle to “give more people a chance to win”, with the third week re-draw set earlier today, August 22.
The fast food giant will also announce the rescheduled 4th to 6th and special raffle draw dates, this time, with DTI’s oversight “to ensure fairness and transparency in all promotional undertakings”.
The said promo drew flak after netizens noticed foreign names such as “Georgianna Cole”, “Celestine Gaylord”, amongst others.
DTI, on the other hand, assured commitment to protecting consumers and monitoring trade promotions and will continue to oversee promotional activities.
