Thailand – Thai Enquirer, a relatively new news website focused on Thailand and the region, has announced today that its ownership group has been bought out by China Daily, the national English-language news publication in China, which has been in operation since 1981. Following the buyout, Thai Enquirer will be folded into the China- focused media and will now be called Thailand Daily.

Thai Enquirer, which was only launched in January 2020, reports on a wide range of current affairs including civic, political, business, and lifestyle news, and also dabbles in multimedia content such as live streams and podcasts. In an announcement posted on its own website, the Thai publication said that with the consolidation, it “will be able to cover Asian news for Asians more effectively.”

“We would like to thank our readers for their support for the last two years and hope you continue with us as we move forward into uncharted waters,” said Thai Enquirer.

The Thai publication also took the opportunity to apologize for its previous coverage of certain matters pertaining to Hong Kong and Xinjiang.

It concludes, “It is an exciting new chapter for journalism in Asia and we hope you enjoy our new coverage.”

Starting out as a traditional English-language newspaper in China, China Daily has developed into a multi-media information platform that combines newspapers, websites, and apps with a strong presence on social media on Facebook, Twitter, Sina Weibo and WeChat.

The integration and rebranding of Thai Enquirer begin effectively on Monday, 4 April.
