Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Sony YAY!, a kids entertainment channel under Sony Pictures Networks India, has launched on Malaysia’s unifi TV, owned by Telekom Malaysia. The channel is in the Tamil language and includes seven kid’s entertainment shows including Sab Jholmaal Hai (Honey Bunny), Guru Aur Bhole, Taarak Mehta Ka Chhota Chashma, Kicko & Super Speedo, Paap-O-Meter, Prince Jai aur Dumdaar Viru and HaGoLa.

Sony YAY! is expected to tap into the prominent Tamil-speaking population of the region which comprises a total of 1.8 million people – the third highest in the world, after India and Sri Lanka. Considering the significant size of the Tamil-speaking audience in this region, the launch is a perfect opportunity for the channel to extend its content offerings to an expanded audience base across the South Asian market. 

The launch of the channel in Tamil on one of the largest platforms Telekom Malaysia Berhad (unifi TV) is further set to aid the channel in terms of reach and access. Sony YAY! will be accessible to the subscribers of unifi TV under the Varnam Plus Pack and the Ultimate Pack.

Singapore – Cartoon Network, one of the largest kid channels on television, has unveiled its latest brand experience called ‘Redraw Your World’ for its APAC market. This new brand experience aims to appeal to a wider demographic, as well as inviting kids to always be true to themselves, and be confident in their abilities to impact real change in both big and small ways. 

As part of the new brand experience, Cartoon Network will be donning new vibrant colors, music and design for its programming. In addition, the network will be premiering two episodes of ‘We Baby Bears’, a spin-off of the popular series ‘We Bare Bears’ on 8 January.

Moreover, Cartoon Network is looking to launch pop-up doodle stations and craft videos powered by Crayola, the regional campaign’s official ‘creativity partner’. Armed with inspiration and the right tools for creativity, kids are invited to express themselves and let their imagination run free by drawing or doodling their vision of the world they want to live in.

The video series, entitled ‘Craft Your World’, will launch on Cartoon Network Asia and Crayola websites and social channels in the coming weeks until the end of 2022.

Meanwhile, only in Singapore, Cartoon Network has teamed up with NTUC FairPrice and Plus! Programme in 2022 for a number of initiatives. Cartoon Network characters will be also on show in the build up to the Chingay Parade 2022 later this month. Cartoonito, a preschool programming block on Cartoon Network, will be launching in Asia later in the year.

California, USA – NBCUniversal International Networks’ kid and family entertainment channel DreamWorks is launching the kids series titled “The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants” on its own TV channel.

Based on the original novel by Dav Pilkey, the new kid series will revolve around the characters George and Harold and their latest creation Captain Underpants. The new show is focused on bringing kid-friendly entertainment including laugh-out jokes, kid antics and supporting characters joining the show’s adventure.

The show is executively produced by Peter Hastings, and is slated for its premiere episode on December 7, 6:55pm (PHT) weekdays on DreamWorks.

Other ongoing shows by DreamWorks include “The Boss Baby: Back in Business”, “Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny and Trolls: The Beat Goes On!”  – in addition to new releases Denver the Last Dinosaur which premiered 16 November at 3:30pm (PHT) and “Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed!”  launching on the DreamWorks channel on Monday 7th December at 5:15pm (PHT).
