Singapore – The Singapore High Court has ordered internet service providers to block access to 47 pirate domains illegally showing Premier League content, following a successful application by the Premier League.

The ruling forms part of the League’s ongoing efforts to combat digital piracy in the region.

The latest order builds on a series of court decisions secured since the 2018/19 season. To date, nearly 800 infringing domains have been blocked in Singapore alone.

The latest ruling follows an earlier Singapore High Court order secured by the Asia Video Industry Association’s Coalition Against Piracy, which blocked 53 domains linked to 22 major illegal streaming website brands operating in the country.

The order, obtained by BBC Studios, the Premier League, and DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga, targeted some of the most heavily accessed pirate platforms in Singapore and highlighted growing concerns over the sophistication of piracy services and their wider risks, including malware, data theft, scams, identity fraud, and network security threats.

Across Asia Pacific, more than 30,000 websites and apps providing unauthorised access to Premier League content have been blocked over the past six years.

The Premier League continues to work closely with local broadcast partners, governments, and law enforcement agencies across the region to pursue legal action against individuals and organisations involved in the sale and distribution of illegal streams, as well as related criminal activities including money laundering and scams.

“This is another significant court ruling in Singapore that strengthens the fight against digital piracy. We are encouraged that the courts continue to recognise the importance of protecting intellectual property rights and supporting official content providers,” said Stefan Sergot, Director of Legal – Enforcement at the Premier League.

“Illegal streaming services place users at wider risk of cybercrime, including scams and the misuse of personal data. By preventing access to these sites, we are fighting criminal behaviour while supporting the majority of our fans who choose to watch Premier League matches in a safe, high-quality way,” he added.

Beyond legal action, the Premier League is continuing its ‘Boot Out Piracy’ campaign in Singapore for a fifth consecutive year, highlighting the risks associated with accessing illegal streams.

Research by cybersecurity expert Professor Paul Watters found that pirate websites in Singapore are more than 13 times riskier than mainstream sites when it comes to exposing users to scams, with every pirate site analysed flagging at least one cyber threat, including malware, phishing, or scams.

The study also revealed that nearly three-quarters, or 71%, of advertisements displayed on pirate platforms promote harmful content.

Users of pirate apps may also have their personal data hijacked and their internet connections linked to criminal activity, exposing them to fraud, malware, and even law enforcement investigations.

The Premier League said it will continue working with StarHub, its official broadcast licensee in Singapore, and local authorities to take action against illegal streaming and to strengthen public awareness of the dangers associated with piracy.

Singapore — The Asia Video Industry Association’s Coalition Against Piracy (CAP) has secured a new Singapore High Court order blocking 53 domains linked to 22 major illegal streaming website brands operating in the country.

The order, obtained by BBC Studios, the Premier League and DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga, targets sites facilitating unauthorised streaming and downloads of video content and marks another step in Singapore’s efforts to curb large-scale digital piracy.

The affected platforms were among the most heavily accessed by users in Singapore.

CAP said that while Singapore remains a regional leader in anti-piracy enforcement, piracy services are becoming increasingly sophisticated and resilient to traditional domain-blocking measures.

The group warned that illicit streaming sites and devices pose risks beyond copyright infringement, including exposure to malware, data theft, financial scams and identity fraud, as well as wider threats such as botnet activity and network security risks.

In light of these developments, CAP urged the Government to review existing legislation to ensure enforcement frameworks remain adaptive and capable of addressing evolving piracy services that also present cybersecurity and consumer-protection concerns.

“Site-blocking continues to be one of the most proven and impactful anti-piracy mechanisms globally,” said Matt Cheetham, general manager of CAP

Cheetham added, “This latest order underscores the Singapore courts’ recognition of the harm caused by these illegal services. As piracy networks become more agile, ensuring that legislative procedures and implementation processes remain current and efficient is essential for maintaining the effectiveness of Singapore’s site blocking framework.”

CAP said it will continue working with rights holders, platforms, enforcement agencies and policymakers across the Asia-Pacific region to protect the creative sector and support legitimate content services.

Hong Kong – Premier League, one of the well-known football leagues globally, has rolled out its second phase of anti-piracy campaign across Asia, specifically to the markets of Hong Kong and Malaysia. Said campaign is centered around the dangers that illegal football streams pose to fans.

Done in partnership with broadcast partners Astro and PCCW, the campaign notes the perils of patronizing illegal football streams which include data theft to malicious malware, as well as emphasizing the poor viewing experience through broken links and delays.

Said campaign will feature images of fan favorites such as Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min and Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp. In addition, the campaign will be rolled out across digital platforms in Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Speaking about the campaign, Kevin Plumb, director of legal services at Premier League, said, “This campaign is an important part of our education to fans. We will continue working with our broadcast partners to fight piracy and disrupt illegal Premier League streams. However, we want to ensure supporters really understand that piracy is not only illegal but also brings with it many risks.”

He added, “Illegal Premier League streaming also means missing out on watching high-definition games in real-time with expert commentary and insights from players and managers. We want fans to enjoy the best Premier League viewing experience possible via official broadcast channels, not via broken and delayed illegal sources which also bring with them a great risk of malicious malware and ransomware.”

The Premier League is committed to tackling piracy and continues to work closely with its official broadcast partners in the region to educate consumers on the dangers they face when watching illegal football streams.

Furthermore, across the Southeast Asia region, the Premier League has also been targeting those responsible for operating illegal football streams and bringing them to justice through the courts.
