Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has launched its Chinese New Year 2026 festive film, “Roaring Blessings,” a short feature that centres on themes of empathy, understanding, and challenging first impressions.

Developed by Chariot Agency, the film represents what the agency describes as an evolution in TNB’s festive storytelling, moving beyond traditional celebratory narratives to address social tensions and everyday misunderstandings.

Set against the backdrop of lion dance tradition, “Roaring Blessings” follows Ming, the disciplined head of a lion dance troupe, and Kenny, a young boy whose determination appears to exceed his physical capabilities. Kenny’s early struggles during training prompt Ming and others in the troupe to question whether he is suited to the physical demands of lion dance.

As the story develops, Ming uncovers the reasons behind Kenny’s perseverance, leading to a turning point that reframes Kenny’s role and contribution within the troupe.

“Chinese New Year films are often centred on light-hearted, feel-good moments,” shared Adrian Cheah, managing director of Chariot Agency. “With TNB, we saw an opportunity to do something braver. To tell a story that reflects real social issues and everyday judgments Malaysians face. ‘Roaring Blessings’ marks TNB’s first step into more purposeful festive storytelling, showing that empathy and understanding can be just as powerful as celebration.”

“At the heart of this story is a very real human truth,” said Christyna Fong, creative director at Chariot Agency. “We live in a time where people are defined by first impressions. With ‘Roaring Blessings’, we wanted to remind Malaysians that kindness begins when we pause, look deeper, and truly understand one another.”

TNB said the film reflects its broader commitment to staying relevant to daily life while maintaining its brand values.

“This film was created to do more than mark a festive moment. It centres on human connection, everyday kindness, understanding, and experiences that truly matter. It reflects how TNB continues to evolve its festive storytelling to remain relevant to daily life, while staying true to our brand DNA and our commitment to building better, brighter lives,” said Samsul Ariffin bin Zainuddin, head of group corporate communications at TNB.

Produced in collaboration with Reservoir Production and directed by Quek Shio Chuan, “Roaring Blessings” is now available on TNB’s digital platforms nationwide.

The film positions empathy and understanding as central to the festive season, highlighting values that extend beyond celebration and tradition.
