Indonesia – Fintech giant Robinhood Markets, Inc. is set to enter the Indonesian market after signing agreements to acquire local brokerage PT Buana Capital Sekuritas and licensed digital financial asset trader PT Pedagang Aset Kripto.
The move marks Robinhood’s planned debut in Indonesia and forms part of its broader expansion strategy across Southeast Asia. The company noted Indonesia’s growing investor base—comprising more than 19 million capital market investors and 17 million crypto investors—as a key factor behind the decision.
Following the acquisition of Buana Capital, Robinhood said it will continue serving the brokerage’s existing customers with Indonesian financial products. The firm added that it aims, over time, to introduce its own brokerage and crypto trading services and provide Indonesian users access to US equities, cryptocurrencies, and other assets.
Both transactions remain subject to customary closing conditions, including approval from the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, OJK), and are expected to close in the first half of 2026.
Pieter Tanuri, majority owner of Buana Capital and PT Pedagang Aset Kripto, will remain involved as a strategic advisor to Robinhood.
“Indonesia represents a fast-growing market for trading, making it an exciting place to further Robinhood’s mission to democratise finance for all,” said Patrick Chan, head of Asia at Robinhood.
“We look forward to bringing Indonesians the same innovative services that have earned the trust of Robinhood customers globally,” he added.
